Things we love...Vintage wedding handkerchiefs

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Hello chickadees! We got our inspiration for today's post from these first photos shot by a photographer friend Kate Headley ... Check it out!

We just LOVE the photography and the creativity. This is something we'll definitely suggest to our clients. Too cute! Another way to present guests with sweet vintage handkerchiefs is to arrange them in a basket with a note saying: "Please take one for your tears of joy." I have also seen handkerchiefs as a save the date or wedding invitation!

We also love suggesting an embroidered handkerchief as a mother of the bride's gift from her daughter. Another sweet gift idea - and one I gave both my sister-in-law for her wedding day and myself for mine - is an embroidered handkerchief with the bride's new monogram, last name initial, or first two initials of our name like on mine below.   In addition to carrying my own newly monogrammed handkerchief on my wedding day, I also kept with me my grandmother Rhoda's handkerchief with her "R" initial on it. A quick aside: My grandmother passed away at 45 before I was born and I was named after her. People always ask me where my parents got the name "Raina" and funny enough it came out of a baby book, but I was really named after Rhoda. My mother says my grandmother never liked her name (I think it's beautiful), so because Raina begins with an "R" and ends with an "A," Raina I became! My mother gave me my grandma Rhoda's beautiful vintage handkerchief to carry with me on my special day as she had it with her on her wedding day.  Also, not shown here I had "something blue" handkerchief of my paternal great grandmother- I carried all three handkerchiefs that day! (two photos are below) : )

Handkerchiefs can also dual as your something blue, a ring pillow, a sweet gift for the mother of the groom and also be a special gift for a groom and dad! Or, have the program printed right on the handkerchief!  The photo below of the "D" is the handkerchief I gave my sister-in-law, my main name "Dieterle" and her new name!  The other handkerchief was also her grandmother's and she carried both on her wedding day to my brother.  So many special ways to use incorporate a handkerchief into your special day... and you never know when those "happy tears" will start flowing!! : )
